How to Apply Vinyl
General Instructions For Flat Surfaces
Tips and Tricks
Temperature must be above 45 degrees Fahrenheit before applying vinyl.
Step 1: Clean the surface with glass cleaner and a dry cloth. Dirt and dust particles will cause vinyl lettering to bubble.
Step 2: Draw horizontal guidelines in the area you wish to apply your lettering.
Step 3: With the lettering face down, carefully peel the backing paper away from the lettering.
Step 4: Place the taped letters on the prepared surface, using your guidelines to position them correctly. Firmly "squeegee" the lettering to force the bubbles out. A bondo squeegee will work well. Start in the center and work your way out. Be sure you have gone over all areas.
Step 5: Gently peel off the transfer tape, leaving the letters in place.
Step 6: Your finished!
Instructions For Wet Application For Irregular Surfaces
Prepare application fluid: 4 drops of dish detergent to 1 quart of water in a spray bottle.
Clean the surface with glass cleaner and a dry cloth.
Mark guidelines with masking tape or washable marker in the area you wish to apply your lettering.
With the lettering face down, carefully peel the backing paper away from the lettering.
Spray down area to receive lettering with an ample amount of application fluid to prevent vinyl from sticking to surface.
Place the taped letters on the prepared surface using your guidelines to position them correctly. Lettering may be removed and repositioned as long as surface stays wet. Firmly squeegee the lettering to force the bubbles and fluid out. Start in the center and work your way out. Be sure you have squeegeed out all the application fluid before attempting to remove application tape.
Gently peel the transfer tape away, keeping your hand firmly on the lettering to prevent pulling it back up. Squeegee out any remaining bubbles and fluid. You may need to smooth it down one more time after leaving it to dry for a couple of hours.
